J.K. Rowling is the internationally acclaimed author of the Harry Potter series, which has become a global phenomenon. Her writing career began in 1990 when she conceived the idea for Harry Potter during a delayed train journey. She meticulously crafted the seven-book series, with the first book, Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone, published in 1997. The series concluded with Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows in 2007, and went on to inspire blockbuster movies.

To date, the Harry Potter books have sold over 600 million copies worldwide, been translated into 85 languages, and have been enjoyed as audiobooks for over one billion hours. Alongside the main series, Rowling authored three companion volumes for charity, including Quidditch Through the Ages, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, and The Tales of Beedle the Bard.

The Fantastic Beasts series of films, based on the fictional textbook from the Harry Potter universe, was inspired by Rowling's work, and she also co-wrote the stage play Harry Potter and the Cursed Child with Jack Thorne and John Tiffany.

In 2020, Rowling returned to children's publishing with The Ickabog, a fairy tale for children, the royalties of which she donated to support charity. Her latest novel for children, The Christmas Pig, was published in 2021.

Rowling has received numerous accolades, including an OBE, the Hans Christian Andersen Award, and the Blue Peter Gold Badge. She is also known for her charitable work, particularly through the Lumos Foundation, which supports children’s rights and welfare globally.

Rowling resides in Scotland with her family.
